 About

Connor Tovey is an experimental electronic music producer and orchestral composer whose compositions aim to convey the story of the world around you.  His passion lies in the realm of fantasy and myths, which he routinely finds ways to include into his music and sound designing.

From a young age Connor has been fascinated and enamored by Music and its sister companies of Film and Games. Playing and listening to works from the likes of Nobuo Uematsu, Hans Zimmer, Joe Hisaishi has shaped his musical tastes to that which takes the listener to the world or area they are trying to convey and envelopes them in what it would be like to be a part of that world.

The passion he felt for video games from his youth has never waivered through the years, carrying over into his education, where he began studying composition and production. It was through this creativity that he was able to teach himself a variety of instrument (Keys, Bass, Guitar, Percussion.)

In his recent MA, he took this further and researched the relationship between poly-tonality and video game composition. During this he discovered how much more there is to not only music, but the relationship it has with the players interpretation of what's on screen. Now in the industry, he is motivated towards crossing the threshold of emotionally compelling musical storytelling and make it his main driving force in any project.

Like most composers and music producers, my imagination plays a huge part within my music creation process.  Composing music is very subject specific, but when done correctly and paired to the relevant media, the music breathes emotion into what the viewers are watching or playing.

Connor Tovey is a passionate and committed music professional, with the talent and drive to push your projects to the next level.  Explore their music portfolio and feel free to get in touch with any comments or questions.

"I am a video game composer and sound designer, based in the United Kingdom that specializes in fantasy and emotional journeys."

Connor works as a freelance composer and music producer for both the film and video game industries, whether the project is indie or AAA, his main goal is to create music that fits cohesively into the world you are creating while also being part of the narrative, i.e. narrative music that fits both diegetic and non-diegetic means.

Near the colours of entertainment   you will find a field of containment   have a look inside   you will find a surprise   its your first key of obtainment

For your second key that opens the great tree  You need only think of the damned  His throne sits empty  as does his council who are now nothing more than sand

When the public think of Dracula, most think of church organs. Or perhaps when they think of Star Wars they may think of The Force theme. Music can make or break a scene. There are numerous examples in both film and media in which, if the music or underscore were to be removed, would lose all sense of tension or resolution. Take Jaws, or The Shining for example, without their underscores, while the onscreen imagery may be gruesome or gory, it would lose all sense of tension and anxiety, as the only other sense we have when viewing media is our sense of hearing.

Connor started showing interest in music creation in my early teens, but had prior basic experience in piano and a number of years in a children’s choir. He wanted to get into music creation but had very little available in the way to actually create music with. It was around this time he stumbled onto the software Dance Ejay 4.

While Dance Ejay was primarily a loop-based piece of software, it taught him some fundamental knowledge which he still uses to this day. From there he moved to FL Studio 9, in which he started to learn the fundamentals of electronic music and synthesis under an alias.

More currently, while at university, Connors' main inspiration and influence was shifted from electronic genres to a more classical and orchestral approach after purchasing his first set of sample libraries. It was at university that he began to teach himself the art of composition and scoring. This took two of his passions; video games and making music and intertwined them. After finishing his bachelor’s degree in music production, he did a further MA in Music, to further explore and deepen his knowledge around the subject of composition, which he achieved an overall grade of distinction.

Connor also used this time to deepen his understanding of music theory and it’s applications within gaming (For his masters thesis, he investigated the role of polytonality in games, and how both polytonality and atonality lend themselves to paired media.) Through the years, he has also been gaining knowledge and efficiency in other DAWs such as Logic, Ableton and Pro Tools. Though his preference for composition has not changed from FL Studio as to him it is the most flexible of the DAWs available on windows fit for his needs.

To find the realms of helheim, One must align with Odins lost eye. The realm of men, from the realm of ten. Follow the path in Tri.

Your fourth key is with he who devours all things. Utter his name at the crossroads and you shall find your path opened.
