Creative Process
& Project Management
For the inquisitive, the tried and the true. I am to give the keys to you? Find your mettle, your gold, your steel. Pray to your gods, call them to heel.
First Contact
In this first step, we will discuss and outline your views and goals, your intentions and visions for the over-all scope of the project, as the music for each project can be vastly different.
This is also the perfect time to bounce creative ideas and directions that you or I may have from the initial ideas, which we can develop and flesh out. This will then be turned into a template for the project and be referenced throughout.
Often overlooked as the most critical step in establishing basic ideas and world tendencies, and as the project should be developed throughout, these discussions will be kept open until each idea is finalised and agreed upon.
Creation and Iteration
In the creation phase, using the templates and references gathered in the prior research, I will be drafting ideas and motifs together to create a cohesive and unified theme which corresponds both emotively and temporally within the world in question. From here the theme will be re-worked and re-contextualized to fit each facet of the project. Composition and orchestration become a large focus in this stage, expression and dynamics are also paid close attention as bad dynamics can make or break a piece.
Finalising ideas and Contextualization
After all ideas for the project have been drafted and made into their own pieces, the individual elements are worked on and developed further, so that the pieces signify and correlate to your story and world. Once these pieces have been fully developed and the context has been given, the final touches are added, and small flourishes within the sections that need, whether that be ornaments in play styles or unique articulations specific to musicians themselves.
Project Complete
This is the phase of the project that all of your audio files get sent directly to you through either a shareable link or USB/Hard-drive. These will be stems of audio as well as the entire piece rendered together so that you have ultimate flexibility when it comes to implementation. These pieces of audio will also be of the highest audio quality.
Depending on the size of the overall project, these files will either be sent once all pieces have been completed or one at a time as and when they are finished.
Research and Developement
In this next step, I will use the initial conversation as a basis for my research, using the defined terms in the prior conversation to find references tracks and genres that fit the project.
This will then be developed into test themes, motifs, and soundscapes. These tests will inform the creation phase of development with a specific genre and style in mind. Also at this stage, common and uncommon musical practices will be tested, for example, if the theme was Celtic, experimenting with Gaelic Psalm singing would be an interesting way to start.
With my influences being quite varied, I have a wide range of outlets and genres that I am proficient in, my work does however have a heavy influence from eastern music, ranging from eastern Jazz to Heavy Metal.
Collaboration and Recording
After initial creation and iteration, the pieces will be orchestrated and/or arranged into specific sections so that attention is given to each element. Once each sections articulations and playing style has been figured out and put into writing, if the project calls for it, I will hire musicians which will be recorded to breathe an extra bit of life into each piece. While not every project calls for recording live instruments, i.e. indie titles with a retro aesthetic or a more action oriented game as both of these would call for a more electronic soundtrack.
Mixing and Mastering
Mixing and mastering are the final two stages of the project, this process takes the completed pieces of audio and shapes them to better fit the commercial needs of modern technology and production standards.
Dynamics and expression are still important within film and game music, therefor retaining as much natural character while also preserving as much dynamic range is my preferred choice.
However if the project requires it, heavier post-processing will be applied to the audio to bring it to the desired level.

In the past many have searched. Foiled, trumped and ousted were they. The lack of insight bolstered their confidence and made their decisions foolish.
